why copper?

y r pressure flakers and flaking wands made out of copper? y not use steel? i went ahead and made a pressure flaker from a maple dowel and drilled a hole in the end and glued in a nail, hope it works

because if you use steel - you can catch on fire - sorry couldnt resist.....copper is soft enough - you can use steel both for pressure and percussion but both instances they have to be annealed -i.e....

Idon't know about the crumbling part but it sounds like the rock was over cooked to. If the angles are correct for stiking the bulb of percusion is normaly deeper with steel and can put micro...
